International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements.

It was started in 1909 in North America and across Europe when women demanded for the right to vote, to work, and to end discrimination. In 1913-1914, International Women's Day also became a mechanism for protesting World War I. In 1975, during International Women's Year, the United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8th.  It is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

Even though we are separated by state and country borders, new-age technology enables us to be the family we call Unique Women in Business.  Every one of us makes an effort to make this world a more beautiful place.  We are creative and talented women… mothers, sisters, daughters, and cousins.  So, let’s celebrate!

We would like to announce our first ever UWIB challenge.  Topic: What makes a woman unique.

Every UWIB member can participate.  You can submit any item you think will make a woman unique.  It can be a handmade item or something you distribute. It can be a new item or it can be a best seller.
There will be a database open for the submission in our Yahoo Group where you can write the details of your item.

The submission will be closed on February 20, 2010. The voting will start on our blog on February 24 and will be closed on March 4.  Anyone can vote. So invite your friends!  The winner will be announced on our blog on March 8, 2010 and will receive free advertising.
